Re: Kaleo Klassic impersonator: July 13-14th, 2013

Dear Volleyball Community:
Thank you all for supporting us over the years, it has been incredible! The event on the VolleyNation schedule listed as Kaleo Klassic for July 13-14 is NOT the Kaleo Klassic Volleyball Tournament. The Friends of Kaleo Committee members do NOT support it. Oscar Ysleta and Kevin Huth have taken it upon themselves to host this event without the Committee’s agreement. We wish to inform all of you as to what they are trying to do. Neither has responded to our requests to resolve this issue they have created without our consent.

The original committee did agree last year to transition the tournament as we had successfully accomplished what we hoped to do. The direction was to have a tournament named “The Aloha Festival” benefiting a charitable cause in the spirit of The Kaleo Klassic.

For 6 straight years, the Friends of Kaleo Committee have honored a dear friend through a memorial event known as the Kaleo Klassic Volleyball Tournament. Friends of Kaleo who loved him and his family dearly founded the committee. All of the committee members and their families put their heart and soul into this event – donating their time, money and efforts. Everyone on the committee was a key part to the success of this event, which has become the biggest volleyball tournament in Northern California with over 200 teams participating last year. Each year, this event has been at the same venue, Lone Tree Park (aka Kathy Lund Park) and with the exception of the first year, it has been scheduled for the second weekend in July.

Oscar Ysleta and Kevin Huth reserved Lone Tree Park in August 2012, announcing that they were taking over the Kaleo Klassic tournament and organizing their own committee while donating some of the proceeds to another charitable cause. However, this is not in any way associated to the Kaleo Klassic and they are using the name in an effort to draw our supporters we have developed over the years. In addition, Oscar Ysleta has NOT returned any phone calls or messages from the Kaleo Klassic Committee members and will not give up the field or the name so that the Aloha Festival can proceed as our transition plan.

Please check back with this website for updates in the near future!

Sincerely,
Friends of Kaleo Committee
